Matt Wood in a wood.... see what I did there?! 27 May 2012
Seems like forever ago now but back at the end of May (slightly behind on the old blogging!) I had the pleasure of being asked to photograph Matt Wood - aka MyLyricalMind. Matt is a young musician/ singer/ songwriter from Manchester (who I had the pleasure to listen to during the shoot) and to say he has only been at this 'full time' since the beginning of the year is doing incredibly well. This particular week he was shipped (or trained) down to the big smoke for the production of his second E.P.
MyLyricalMind is a Manchester based acoustic solo act, basically its 21 year old Matthew Wood! He mixes reverby atmospheric acoustic guitar with unique vocals. He mixes the sounds of reverby acoustic guitar with unique dreamy like vocals and personal, poetic lyrics with mysterious meanings to create something he believes is really new and different.
I am told by Matt that he first started playing guitar when he was 11 and had lessons for over a year, although quickly lost interest and didn’t pick up another guitar until he got a cheap electric one given to him for his 16th birthday. Over the next 4 years Matt started to teach himself how to play again, and MyLyricalMind is the result of this hard work.
So we both hopped over to Richmond, fighting the mobs of people baking in the summer sunshine (it hasn't lasted....) to find a quiet spot amongst the trees and the shade! I promised Matt broken moody trees and acres of empty fields and lucky for me Richmond Park delivered! Once we had found a favourite tree, and frightened off a Raven sat on a scary little tree hut we got down to serious business.
Luckily neither Matt nor I injured ourselves, balancing on tree trunks and hanging out of lightening struck carcasses; and I think despite the obviously health and safety hazards, we both throughly enjoyed ourselves. Maybe Matt not so much when he had to wear a jumper in the 28 degree heat! Suffering for the art - well and truly ticked off the list!

A few days later I jumped back on the Vespa, laden with my equipment and jetted over to The Animal Farm recording studios based in the Biscuit Factory (Bermondsey) where I had the pleasure of meeting both Mat and Ville Leppanen. Mat (one 'T') was the producer for MyLyricalMinds E.P. and although I was only there for one day, the vibe and music created between the two of them was amazing! Mat did a great job of creating a positive recording environment; relaxed and teaming with ideas he really did get the best out of Matt (two 'T's) and take the songs to another level. I can't wait to hear them!
The E.P will consist of 4 tracks. No release date has been set yet, but I'll post to my FB page when I hear.
You can find more of MyLyricalMind at the website www.mylyricalmindmusic.com and Facebook.com/MyLyricalMind or on sound cloud www.soundcloud.com/mylyricalmind I know Matt is planning to take the free downloads from there soon so hurry to get your free tracks!
